Guest speakers
LAURA SUMMERS (she/her) is Director and Co-founder of BookMachine, a fast-growing community for publishing professionals and a creative agency specialising in digital product development, events and marketing for the book industry. Laura started her career in-house, working at leading publishers – Pearson Education, Oxford University Press and Cengage Learning, before moving into the world of start-ups, which culminated in co-founding her own business, BookMachine, in 2010. Through the BookMachine Community, Laura aims to provide publishers globally with the knowledge, ideas and connections to help them to progress in their careers.
JAINI HARIA (she/her) is Marketing Manager – Trade, Digital & PR at Kogan Page, an independent business book publisher, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Having studied politics at university, Jaini worked in the third sector for almost four years before moving to Kogan Page. After an unconventional route into the publishing industry, she is keen to highlight the different routes available. JASMIN KAULDHAR (she/her) is a publicity assistant at Penguin Random House Children’s. Prior to her role as a publicity assistant, Jasmin worked in communications, administrative roles and for the NHS. During her undergraduate degree in English at the University of Bristol she completed a two-week work experience placement in marketing and publicity at Penguin General. She also has a master’s in Literature and Culture from the University of Birmingham.
PHOEBE DAR (she/her) is the manager of Publishers Pending, a social media project with the goal of making publishing more accessible to those hoping to break into the industry. Since launching last year, they have shared over 100 posts breaking down barriers and offering an insight into publishing.
