From regular panels, workshops and networking events, to our bi-annual all-day conference, we host events around the country to explore current trends and debates to help you develop the skills and contacts you need to progress in your career.
We also hold socials including quizzes, book clubs, exhibition trips and book swaps so you can keep in touch with your literature-loving peers.
Cant get to an event? Need some advice? The Network is a one-stop online forum for members to share tips and experiences with peers, network online, access exclusive content, and connect with industry experts outside of events.
The SYP's quarterly magazine is mailed free to full members, keeping you up to date with SYP activities and what's going on in the rest of the literary scene through articles, guest interviews and reports.
Exclusively for our members, this is a comprehensive, all-in-one-location for entry-level/junior positions around the UK and Ireland.
We are constantly looking to add additional benefits for our members. These currently include:
- Free introductory month and 50% off Bookbrunch subscription (free for students)
- 50% off London Book Fair Tickets
- Select subsidised courses with the Publishing Training Centre (please note that this offer does not run year-round, and members will be contacted when the subsidised places become available)
- 20% discount on all public courses with Media Training Ltd

- Chance to win a golden ticket to IPG conferences
- Regular offers from Writers & Artists
Awards and Projects
The SYP support a number of awards and projects that reward young talent including the Trailblazer Awards for those 'roaring through their 20s', the Kim Scott Walwyn Prize for women in the first 7 years of her career who is acting above and beyond and The Gilbert Collection, an anthology of poetry by male writers published by the SYP to raise money for the Everyman Charity. We are publishing the sequel in autumn 2017.
We are also supporters of Equip, a commitment to driving inclusivity in publishing run by the Publishers Association (PA) and the Independent Publishers Guild (IPG), and work with them on school outreach programmes including the Getting Into Publishing Handbook for schools and university students.
If you have any questions about membership, partnerships or the society as a whole, please contact the UK committee who oversee the management of the SYP.
