A monthly book club organised by The Society of Young Publishers committee in the bustling heart of London. Turn up to a central London venue and share your thoughts on the book of the month. Each month is a different genre or theme and you can put your favourite book up for nomination by contacting us on Twitter at @syp_ldn. The book of the month is voted for by Book Club participants at the previous month’s meeting.
Book: The Binding by Bridget Collins
Theme: Welcome to 2019! (Books published this year only).
Imagine you could erase your grief. Imagine you could forget your pain. Imagine you could hide a secret. Forever.
Emmett Farmer is working in the fields when a letter arrives summoning him to begin an apprenticeship. He will work for a Bookbinder, a vocation that arouses fear, superstition and prejudice – but one neither he nor his parents can afford to refuse.
In a vault under his mentor’s workshop, row upon row of books – and memories – are meticulously stored and recorded.
Then one day Emmett makes an astonishing discovery: one of them has his name on it.
If you are planning on attending this month, please RSVP to email@example.com. This is just to give us an idea of numbers but please feel free to come along even if you haven’t let us know – all are welcome!
