SYP & Bookseller Jobs on the Road: Exeter Edition
Following the success of our first On The Road event in Bristol, we are excited to head back out with the Bookseller Jobs – this time to Exeter.
We've started teaming up with The Bookseller Jobs to go on the road and shine a spotlight on publishing around the UK. Reaching members outside the SYP's existing five regional hubs, these events aim to debunk the idea that you have to move to London to get ahead and celebrate the publishing talent that the UK has to offer.
The next event will be held at Oddfellows, Exeter at 6pm on 24th October with a range of speakers including Rosie Stewart, Senior Production Editor at Swales & Willis; Sarah Sleath, Marketing and Publicity Manager at Impress Books; and Becky Taylor, Publisher at SAGE. The panel will explore everything from production and digital skills, marketing and pubolicity, large-scale academic to independent publishing, and an overall look at the publishing landscape in Exeter.
Rosie Stewart, Senior Production Editor at Swales & Willis, entered the world of publishing with a book project management company in Devon, later moving into journal publishing with the scientific and medical giant, Elsevier. After working as a Journal Manager for over 4 years, Rosie has recently joined Swales & Willis and currently works on a portfolio of educational and academic books from a variety of major UK publishers.
Sarah Sleath, Marketing and Publicity Manager at Impress Books, joined the independent publisher just over 2 years ago after a series of internships at publishers across the industry. Impress Books specialises in championing the very best of new writing talent giving unpublished writers a chance to become published authors. It focuses on historical, crime and contemporary fiction as well as non-fiction titles. Impress Books also runs the Impress Prize for New Writers which is now it’s 11th year.
