As part of Work in Publishing Week this year, we’re exploring the world of marketing through freelance. With award-winning marketer Rachel Quin, we’ll dive into how a book campaign actually gets built – from reading the brief and finding the audience, to setting and splitting a budget, choosing the channels, briefing creative, working out who to approach, and ultimately, what you measure at the end.
The workshop will last around 45 minutes before ending with a Q&A for 20 minutes.
Rachel is a publishing professional with over a decade of experience and a love of books, creative marketing, and most importantly, cats. Previously in-house at HarperCollins developing award-winning fiction campaigns, she now works freelance with a varied roster of clients from Big 5 publishers to indies including Bloomsbury, Faber, HarperCollins, Insight Editions and Penguin Random House. To date, Rachel has won ten Book Marketing Society awards for work across genres, was shortlisted for a British Book Award in 2025 for her work on smash-hit translated fiction novel BUTTER, and was twice shortlisted for Freelancer of the Year at FutureBook (2024 and 2025).
