With a vast range of volunteer roles across our 8 branches, there are plenty of opportunities to network, and to learn and develop new skills. Volunteer Testimonials

“As someone who is passionate about learning, volunteering for the SYP has been so fulfilling for me. I have developed new skills, gained valuable experience, and made great connections with lovely people. This experience helped me to land multiple interviews, a paid internship, and now a full time role I love. If you want to up-skill while supporting an amazing organisation, volunteering with the SYP is for you!”

Caitlin Tubbs-Galley, SYP UK Membership Lead 2024

“Volunteering with SYP North has been such a rewarding experience. I’ve loved sharing all of the fantastic work that SYP North has done over the past year in our newsletter, and I have developed loads of transferable skills. I’ve had the opportunity to build meaningful connections, both within the committee and across the community, through our events and collaborative projects. Volunteering alongside such dedicated individuals has been inspiring and I encourage anyone thinking of applying to go for it!”

Laura Lewis, SYP North Blog Officer 2024

“With the SYP I have had opportunities to learn, grow and develop key digital marketing skills which have been instrumental in establishing my publishing career. With the support of the UK Chairs and wider committee, I have taken steps outside of my comfort zone to build on my experiences, and I have become much more confident for it. Volunteering with the SYP is a collaborative and fun experience; everyone is passionate and dedicated to helping publishing hopefuls to achieve their career goals. The SYP is truly a brilliant place to upskill and make a difference, all whilst making lifelong connections across the industry.”

Joanne Boustead, InPrint Writer 2023 and SYP UK Website Officer 2024

“Although not originally applying for the Treasurer/Secretary role, assuming I was better suited to others, it has given me valuable experience and provided me with an insight into a new area of the industry, I am super grateful to be have been offered this! Volunteering with the SYP is something I would recommend to anyone looking to get into publishing as they are a great social and supportive community. I hope to be involved with them further in the future.”

Amy Missin, SYP UK Treasurer Lead 2024

“My role as Inclusivity Lead for the UK committee has given me so many opportunities to grow both professionally and personally. I started the year without any experience of leading a team, and I don’t have formal or university-level training in inclusivity, but I brought my passion to the SYP. I’m thrilled with how the year has gone, and I’ve had numerous chances to develop both the SYP’s inclusive practices and my own understanding and competency of it. I’ve been able to develop and review documentation and policies; chair meetings with my inclusivity working group and collaborate with them on events; chair and host two panel events remotely; create new connections with organisations; and work with some amazing and supportive volunteers.”

Han Noss, SYP UK Inclusivity Lead 2024

“My experience as the SYP Mentorship Scheme Lead has allowed me to develop my leadership and organisation skills while gaining a better understanding of the publishing industry through SYP’s resources. It’s also been incredibly rewarding to see how much the mentorship scheme has helped mentees trying to get into/ ahead in the industry.”

Ari Lam, SYP UK Mentorship Lead 2024

“Working as the InPrint Picture Editor this year has been an enriching experience. I have worked alongside dedicated individuals who have helped me learn more about different roles and opportunities. Creating images for each issue has been a delight- not only to see my work in print but also to work together with others on a shared project. This role has supported me in getting my first job within the industry and I feel like it shows my passion for publishing.”
