Spare Zoom Project
The Spare Zoom Project facilitates 30-minute Zoom sessions between publishing hopefuls/junior members of staff and professionals currently working in the industry. Hopefuls and junior publishing staff can seek advice on career development and also gain a valuable industry connection remotely.
It is akin to a remote coffee networking session and serves as an accessible way hopefuls and those early in their career from across the UK and Ireland can ask questions and develop their understanding of the book industry.
If you’re looking for a job in publishing or are already in your first role, you can get some advice from someone already in the industry who’ll share their career experiences and support you in yours.
The Spare Zoom Project was set up in reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we feel the need for hopefuls to connect and network is as important as ever.

Mentor Testimonials for the Spare Zoom Project
“I really look forward to my sessions as a spare zoom mentor. I’ve always been passionate about access to publishing, and the SZP is such an easy way to provide advice and help demystify the industry for publishing hopefuls/existing publishing folk looking to change direction. An unexpected personal benefit is that it gives me the chance to reflect on the industry myself – and
of course, it’s incredibly inspiring to get the chance to meet potential future colleagues! I’ve loved all my sessions so far, and would highly recommend signing up” – Amy Fletcher.
