We hope you will join us at the hugely (if we may say so ourselves) popular Society of Young Publishers’ Annual Pub Quiz in support for the Book Trade Charity (BTBS).

All you need to do to enter is gather a team of max. 6, or sign up as an individual and we will place you in a team. Not only is it a fun event, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet interesting new people in the industry that you might not have had a chance to bump into otherwise!

The winning team will win a combination of goodies that we hope you will enjoy.

The bar and the kitchen will be open throughout the evening to keep you satisfied and ready to answer our thrilling quiz questions!

How to enter...

If you already have a team all you need to do is buy your tickets, using the link below, and have your team captain email events@thesyp.org.uk with your team name and the names of the people in it. (Please note, if you have a team of less than 6 you may be placed with other brainiacs to form a mega team!)

SYP Summer Book Swap

It’s that lovely time of year again. Join us for our annual SYP Summer Picnic & Book Swap!

As always, there will be a twist – we’re asking that you do three simple things:

  • Choose a book of yours that you want to share with the world
  • Wrap it in plain paper
  • Add three brief but intriguing bullet points to “sell” it to a prospective new owner

We’ll be meeting at  the ArcelorMittal Orbit inside the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford at 12pm and will then find a nice spot to have our picnic together. In the (hopefully) unlikely event of rain, we'll opt for plan B and head inside Westfield to a cafe/pub.

Bring friends, bring food, bring drinks, and don’t forget about that book of course!

We’re looking forward to seeing you there.

This is a free event so please do register your attendance if you would like to attend.

What is next for the creative industries post-Brexit? – Speaker Event

The Creative Industries Federation called upon the government to recognise the importance of creative industries after triggering Article 50. A year on from the referendum, and a level of uncertainty still remains not only in terms of future development within the publishing industry, but also in terms of Brexit's financial impact on local authorities such as schools and libraries.

SYP London will be asking: what impact has Brexit had on the creative industries one year on from the referendum? And what, if anything, has changed?

This panel will discuss the positive and negative effects of Brexit on the publishing industry as of 2017. The panel will also consider what we may expect from the publishing industry long-term in response to Brexit, as well as the possible impact of ongoing Brexit negotiations on the creative industries over the coming years.

How to assert yourself in publishing – Speaker Event

Join us for our next speaker event of the year in which our panel of publishing experts will be discussing how to assert yourself in your role.

It can be scary joining a new office, or starting out in publishing, and in a very female-heavy industry in which men are very often at the top it can be hard to speak up for yourself. Publishing involves a lot of meetings too, and it can be daunting to speak your mind. This panel will discuss tips for speaking to your boss, making your voice heard in meetings, and forging your own path in a competitive industry. It will also touch upon the topics of maternity leave in publishing, honest salaries and how and when to ask for a pay rise.
