About Our Scheme

Welcome to the Society of Young Publishers mentorship scheme – a fantastic opportunity to receive personalised and structured career guidance from publishing experts, learn more about the industry, and work on the key skills needed to progress within it!

The scheme will entail:

  • An official mentoring period of 6 months
  • A minimum of 4 formal one-on-one virtual meetings with the mentor
  • A virtual social event to meet other mentors and mentees of the UK-wide programme

There are three strands to the mentorship scheme (please bear in mind that not every branch will offer all strands):

  • Into is for those yet to secure their first permanent role in the industry
  • Ahead is for those who are working within the industry and want to find a mentor to help them take the next step
  • Launch is for those seeking to freelance, start their own company, or progress in the publishing industry in a different way than in the traditional in-house options. This is only run by the SYP UK branch and the SYP Ireland branch, but will be open to anyone based in England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Each SYP branch covers different areas:

  • SYP Ireland: Ireland, Northern Ireland
  • SYP London: Buckinghamshire, London, East Sussex, Essex, Greater London, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey, West Sussex
  • SYP North: Cheshire, Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham, Humberside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, South Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear, West Yorkshire
  • SYP Oxford: Oxfordshire
  • SYP Scotland: Scotland
  • SYP South West: Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Somerset, Wiltshire
  • SYP UK: Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Hampshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Warwickshire, West Midlands
  • SYP Wales: Wales

The next round of applications for the following branches are scheduled to open on 19 May 2025 at 09:00, and will close on 8 June 2025 at 23:59.
