The Society of Young Publishers is a voluntary organisation and is run by the six regional committees – London, Oxford, North, Scotland, Ireland and South West – and one lead UK committee, of dedicated volunteers who give up their spare time to help others take their first steps into the industry and progress within it. We can also be found On The Road, highlighting smaller publishing communities in other areas of the UK.

The UK Committee lead the SYP’s activities across the UK and Ireland, overseeing branches in London, Oxford, the North, Scotland and Ireland; running ‘On the Road’ events all over the country; and providing valuable online content for our digital members.
The oldest branch of the SYP, we continue to deliver speaker and social events for those in, and breaking into, the London publishing scene. In addition to our monthly panels, socials and Book Club, we also provide workshops for both publishing professionals and aspiring publishers.
At SYP Scotland we want to unite publishing newbies all across Scotland through our relationships with organisations such as Publishing Scotland, publishers, literary agents and booksellers.
Predominantly dividing our events between Leeds and Manchester, the SYP North committee is made up of a wonderful mix of book publishers, students and freelancers with a wealth of experience between them.
Launched in 2016, SYP Ireland quickly established relationships with regional universities and groups such as the Irish Writer’s Centre to connect and support young and aspiring publishers.
The Oxford branch of the SYP is run by a group of enthusiastic and friendly volunteers who put on regular speaker events, socials, book clubs, and much more for people interested in publishing based in Oxford and the surrounding area.
The newest branch of the SYP was officially opened in 2018 in the South West of the UK. This committee is the sixth regional branch, alongside London, Oxford, North, Scotland and Ireland.
Partnering with The Bookseller, The Society of Young Publishers put on pop-up events around the UK to shine a spotlight on publishing talent, highlight roles and routes into the industry less talked about, and disrupt the idea that you must move to the capital to work in publishing.
