Job description

At Penguin Random House we believe in the power of stories, and our Sales Analysis and Reporting team are on the lookout for someone who believes in the power of telling stories with data.

Do you get a kick out of getting into the detail and teasing out insight? If you’re an adaptable and resourceful analyst, then this could be the role for you.

The Sales Analysis and Reporting team works across all Penguin Random House UK divisions, delivering commercial and consumer sales-based business intelligence to colleagues across the breadth of the group Sales department and throughout the wider organisation, striving to provide accessible and actionable insight.

You will have a focus on the online retail space, working particularly closely with our Retail Advertising and Online Sales teams, and leveraging consumer search and retail sales data sources to drive discoverability of our titles online.

Key responsibilities
• Producing clear and insightful reporting from different cloud-based and manual data sources (numerical and textual) on a regular and ad-hoc basis
• Administering existing and developing new departmental and corporate dashboarding, as business needs require
• Supporting process improvement measures through analysis, including optimising our online product listings
• Acting as a subject matter expert for online sales data sources in response to business queries and in ongoing projects
• Being an active member of the PRH data community, adhering to central governance and performance best practices, and upholding data quality measures

We’d love it if you had…

Essential criteria:
• Experience of using SQL to query relational databases as well as strong Excel skills
• Some knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Proven experience of working with large datasets and distilling outputs into reports for a broad audience of consumers
• An exceptional eye for detail
• A confident communication style, able to present their work compellingly, both visually and verbally
• A desire to build relationships and an ability to juggle competing priorities

Desirable criteria:
• An understanding of SEO or ecommerce
• Experience of working within a sales or commercial environment

Experience of publishing is not required, but working across the breadth of the PRH UK catalogue would certainly complement an interest in books, as you’ll play an important part in getting our authors’ works into the hands of readers.
