This award aims to celebrate those in the very early years in the industry – those in the first five years in the industry – and crucially seeks to involve those from different roles within the book ecosystem, from librarians to content creators, aspiring publishers to booksellers.
The award is run by SYP in collaboration with The Publishing Post, two volunteer-run organisations that work to improve the accessibility of the industry.
The First Chapter Awards celebrates those early in their career who show a determination to supporting their team and a passion for the industry.
This award is open to a broad range of individuals at the very beginning of their careers, including:

The Publishing Post
The Publishing Post is a magazine for those who wish to learn more about publishing, by providing a platform where, as contributors and readers, publishing hopefuls can develop industry-specific knowledge and skills, whilst showcasing their passion and love for the publishing industry. The magazine works to represent parts of the publishing industry and bookish community that are often overlooked in traditional discourse and improve accessibility and diversity within the industry by opening it up to as many people as possible for free.
Society of Young Publishers
Run by a team of dedicated volunteers, the Society of Young Publishers (SYP) aims to support aspiring publishing hopefuls across the UK and Ireland to break into the industry, and to encourage junior publishing professionals to progress their careers.
