SYP Scotland are back in 2019 with our new conference: Building Bridges, Breaking Walls! Join us on Friday 15th February at Central Hall in Edinburgh.
The fourth annual SYP conference in Scotland will focus squarely on two themes, Building Bridges covering the work being done to connect the literary world, establish new audiences and reach out internationally, and Breaking Walls which will cover the industry’s drive to become more inclusive, the promotion of good mental health within the industry and the growing presence of both Indie start-ups and anthology publishing in Scotland.

At SYP Scotland we want to unite publishing newbies all across Scotland. If you’re interested in becoming a member, full information is here.
The Society of Young Publishers is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led organisation looking to support, educate, enthuse and entertain prospective publishers, and those within the first ten years of their career in the publishing or book industry. We do this through monthly events, online events, mentoring schemes and more.
Praise for previous conferences:
“Such great passion and eagerness – utterly inspiring.”
“Genuinely excited and optimistic about the future of publishing!”
“Hugely informative and exciting.”
“Can honestly say this is the first publishing conference I’ve been to that has inspired rather than depressed! I’ve lots of new ideas!”
As part of our renewed focus on inclusivity within our society and within publishing, our new Inclusivity Committee will be sponsoring 5 tickets to this year’s Scotland Conference on Friday 15th February 2019.
The theme of this season’s conference is Building Bridges, Breaking Walls. Walls within the industry will only be broken if wider, more diverse range of voices are able to have their say, and we want to help that happen.
The sponsored tickets will be given to 5 applicants from marginalised backgrounds including those from BAME, LGBTQ+ and other under-represented groups within publishing, such as those with disabilities, and those on low income.
If you would like to apply for one of these tickets, please email Inclusivity Co-ordinator Salma Begum at firstname.lastname@example.org a brief professional biography and a few lines about why you would like to attend the conference, including if you are a member of one of the communities we are hoping to help with this initiative.
Please note that we will not share any of your personal details or information, it will be used purely for application/monitoring purposes. Deadline for applications – 5pm Saturday 2nd February.
Join us on Friday 15th February 2019 at Central Hall, Edinburgh for a day that celebrates fostering collaboration and breaking down the barriers of the publishing industry.
