Why Do People Buy Books?: Books & Consumers at the 2014 AGM

January 27, 2014 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Free

We devote our careers to publishing, but do we know as much as we’d like about the eventual users of our product?  This year’s AGM debate will focus on the consumer and ask: why do people buy books?  Are most books read by eager customers, or are they bought as accessories, or unwanted gifts?  There will be panelists from across the industry to give their different perspectives on consumer behaviour and its significance to publishing.

This is also your opportunity to be introduced to the 2014 SYP committee, hear our 2013 Chair Lottie Chase’s farewell speech to close her year in charge, and generally have fun over drinks and nibbles.  We will once again be at the beautiful Stationers’ Hall, a very apt venue for us – don’t miss it!

Confirmed Panelists:
Louise Corcoran – Supervisor at Foyles, Stratford
Anna James – Librarian and also book blogger at Go Book Yourself
Nicolette Jones – Children’s Book Editor at The Sunday Times
Annie Eaton – Publisher at Random House Children’s Publishers
More to be announced!
