THE ANNUAL LECTURE 2015
delivered by Sir David Arculus
‘The Rise and Fall of one of Britain’s Best Ever Media Companies – The EMAP story.’
every meeting a party—until mutually-assured destruction plus a crystal ball for the future of the print world
Sir David Arculus is currently Chairman of Energy (UK), Hassium Asset Management and a Non Executive Director of Pearson plc. He has experience in publishing, telecommunications and banking in a long career in business. David’s previous roles include the chairmanship of Aldermore Bank plc, Numis Corporation, O2 plc, Severn Trent plc, IPC Group and the British Library Advisory Board, as well as chief operating officer of United Business Media plc, group managing director of EMAP plc and a non-executive director of Telefonica S.A. David served from 2002 to 2006 as chairman of the British government’s Better Regulation Task Force, which worked on reducing burdens on business.
Joining EMAP in 1972, Sir David took the business from being a small regional newspaper publisher to becoming a massive media group, encompassing magazine, events, exhibitions and data products. The Stationers’ Company is very fortunate to have the story told by the man himself; this should be a fascinating and unique opportunity to understand how publishing businesses can grow strategically.
The evening will start with a drinks reception at 6.00 pm and the lecture will start at 6.30 pm. At 7.30 pm there will be drinks and canapés and this will be followed by a dinner. Places at the dinner are limited so please make your booking as soon as ever possible to avoid disappointment. Lecture and Dinner tickets are £95 (inc VAT) and Lecture Only tickets, which includes canapé reception, are £40 (inc VAT).
The deadline for bookings is Monday, 2 March 2015, after which no refunds will be given.
