Join us for the next SYP UK book club on Monday 29th July at 7pm on Zoom! This month we will be discussing Go the Way Your Blood Beats by Emmett de Monterey.

Go the Way Your Blood Beats is a memoir of de Monterey’s experience growing up gay and with cerebral palsy in London during the 1980’s. It was shortlisted for the Slightly Foxed Best Biography Prize in 2023.

Since July is Disability Pride Month we wanted to select a book that explores and celebrates disabled characters. Also, as the SYP UK book clubs are bi-monthly we wanted to select a title that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community following LGBT Pride Month in June. We hope to explore these aspects of Go the Way Your Blood Beats further in the book club!

The bi-monthly SYP UK Book Club offers a unique publishing perspective on the trends and choices behind the books we choose. With talking points focused on various aspects of publishing, including editorial, marketing, design, and production, we encourage you to engage with the book however you are compelled to!

The SYP UK Book Club is free and open to all, member or non-member. There are no expectations for you to contribute to every part of the conversation or have your camera on. Whether you’ve finished the book or haven’t even opened the cover, we would love to see you there! With discussions not limited to the story of a book, we hope everybody will have something to engage with, from publishing trends to judging books by their covers!
