SYP South West ‘Publishing Perspectives’ panel event at Storytale Festival 2023

October 23, 2023 @ 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join SYP South West as we host our Publishing Perspectives panel event at Storytale Festival 2023, an online event to inspire and educate publishing hopefuls and junior publishers in the South West and beyond.

Publishing Perspectives will be an introduction to publishing through the lens of its many different departments. The panel will include:

  • Hayley Symonds – Sales Director at Paper Engine / HHUK. Hayley has over 10 years experience across a breadth of key accounts and print formats.
  • Jemma Crocker-Wilson – Head of Publicity and Marketing at Murdoch Books. Jemma has worked on integrated campaigns with authors such as Freya Cox, Tracey Cox and Bill Granger.
  • Pollie Frances – Contracts & Business Affairs Assistant (Permissions) at Penguin Random House. Pollie is fairly new to PRH, having previously worked in law.
  • Laura Forker – Contracts & Permissions Manager at Penguin Random House. Laura has worked at PRH for almost 10 years, in contracts and permissions.
  • Natalie Dale – Senior Editor at AM. Ex-Chair of the Society of Publishers South West, Nat works in the Editorial department at AM, a publishing house dedicated to primary sources and archival material.

After discussing how they got into publishing, the panel will explain what their roles are and what their department does; bust some myths about publishing; talk about their favourite parts of their job and offer advice to the audience about applying and looking for jobs. And of course there will be the chance for you to ask the panel questions at the end.

Hosted on Zoom, sign up for a free ticket via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/publishing-perspectives-with-the-society-of-young-publishers-tickets-687205328637?aff=oddtdtcreator
