Getting into publishing seems like an enormously daunting task for most and even more so, if you feel your skills or qualifications are not relevant. In this session, you will find out more about branding yourself to potential employers, communicating your skills in person and digitally, marketing yourself at networking events, building contacts within the industry, and much more!
The first SYP Publishing Skills Workshop of the year will focus on preparing you to dive right into the industry armed with our speaker’s expertise. This session will be hosted by Dr Alison Baverstock, a publishing expert and the joint co-founder of the MA Publishing course at Kingston University. Alison has extensive experience in the field of publishing and in academia is an excellent combination to help you kick-start your journey in Publishing. She has researched and written widely about the publishing industry and her books such as The Naked Author and How to Market Books are both widely translated and used world-wide within industry and academia.
If selected to attend this workshop – please think about what three key attributes you have to offer, and how to make them obvious to potential employers before you come along.
The workshop will take place at Hachette on Wednesday 10th March, 18:30–20:30.
Places are limited (10-15 places per event) and candidates will be selected via this survey. Successful candidates will know if they are selected in due course. Please type the number of places you would like to book (e.g. ‘1’) into the box and answer the survey to be considered for this workshop.
