So You Want to Be an Editor?

September 28, 2017 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

So you want to be an editor, but what type and why?

What kinds of editors are there, and what type would best suit you as a career role?

What skills do you need? What is it like to work as a particular type of editor?

If you’re good at writing, does that necessarily mean you’d be good at editing?

Let Stephanie Cox, Assistant Copy Editor, answer your questions!

Stephanie Cox is the current Chair of Society of Young Publishers North. She has worked in publishing for three years and has been Publishing Editor for Emerald Group Publishing, Editorial Assistant at Award Publications, and now Assistant Copy Editor at Trigger Press.

She is a qualified proofreader and has experience with copyediting novels, non-fiction, children’s books and picture books. She also works as a commissioning editor for her current publishing company.

At this informal but informative session, Stephanie will explain the differences between the various types of editors (including proofreaders, copyeditors, developmental editors, acquisitions editors and commissioning editors). She will outline the kinds of skills needed for each and share her experiences undertaking the various kinds of editing.

This is a great opportunity to pop along, have a chat and ask as many questions as you like!
