Have you ever wanted to go to an international book fair? Are you interested in how film adaptations are made? Do you ever wonder how your favourite books get translated from one language to another, or why you can buy literally anything with Peter Rabbit’s face on it?
In our September workshop, we will be focusing on the wonderful world of rights in publishing, hosted by Elle Waddington, Rights Executive at Stripes Publishing. There will be plenty of fun, interactive activities and chances for you to ask any questions you might have about working in rights.
The workshop cover topics including:
– Getting into rights
– Rights departments in a wider publishing context
– Permissions, translations and more
– Making a rights deal
Meet our workshop leader:
Elle Waddington has a BA (Hons) in English Literature with English Language and a MA in Publishing, both from Kingston University. She started her career in a temporary assistant role in Special Sales at Octopus whilst at university, before moving to Springer Nature as a Rights Assistant. Just over a year after beginning her career, she returned to trade publishing as Rights Executive for Stripes Publishing, where she licenses and co-editions titles around the world.
She volunteers on the Society for Young Publishers UK Committee, was shortlisted for a Trailblazer Award 2018, and lectures at Kingston University on her MA dissertation topic: The Use of Bibliotherapy in Supporting Bereaved Children. Whilst an Undergraduate, she was part of the initial founding team for the Kingston University Big Read initiative, through which she has had two academic research papers published.
