Networking Masterclass

October 4, 2016 @ 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

We are constantly being told that in book publishing, making connections through networking is the way to make a splash, find that first job or progress in your publishing career.

But where to start?

With our networking masterclass, you’ll get to grips with the basics of networking, thanks to tips and advice from experienced professionals.

We will be joined by three professionals in the industry ready to share their networking expertise:

Claire Louise Kemp from Atwood Tate will be on hand to provide practical tips and advice on attending networking sessions. Atwood Tate is one of the leading publishing recruitment agencies with offices in Oxford and London and features a team of specialists with a range of hands-on publishing experience and knowledge.

We will also be joined by Suzanne Collier of bookcareers.com who has been described as ‘THE person to see if you want to get to the top in book publishing’ and her Filofax has been called a ‘Who’s Who of publishing’.  She has worked for both trade and academic publishers, across all functions and departments, and founded bookcareers.com to provide independent career development and guidance in all aspects of the book trade. Suzanne is fully qualified to degree level in career guidance and development , and runs a popular ‘How to Job Search in Book Publishing’ course, an industry wide salary survey as well as working with private clients to develop their careers. Suzanne is a previous winner of the Pandora Award from Women in Publishing for a significant and sustained contribution to the industry.

Emma Williams will also be speaking. Emma is an Associate Publisher in the journals department at Elsevier where she manages the Education and History and Philosophy of Science journal portfolios. Emma is also a former SYP Co-Chair and has experience in organising publishing events. Her current role involves regularly attending conferences and editorial meetings around the world so she has a range of practical networking experience to draw from, and will be on hand to share her best advice on how to network and meet new people in the publishing industry.

When & Where: We’ll be meeting in the Handlebar Cafe at 6.30pm.

Free for members, £2 for non-members!
