London Book Club – September 2018 – The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark

September 10, 2018 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

A monthly book club organised by The Society of Young Publishers committee in the bustling heart of London. Turn up to a central London venue and share your thoughts on the book of the month… Wile away the hours sipping tea (or cocktails!) and have a good old argument about plot, character, genre and anything else that comes to mind. Each month is a different genre and you can put your favourite book forward for reading via our Twitter feed.

Book: The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark

Genre: Back to School

Synopsis: Miss Jean Brodie is a teacher unlike any other, proud and cultured, enigmatic and freethinking; a romantic, with progressive, sometimes shocking ideas and aspirations for the girls in her charge. At the Marcia Blaine Academy she takes a select group of girls under her wing. Spellbound by Miss Brodie’s unconventional teaching, these devoted pupils form the Brodie set. But as the girls enter their teenage years and they become increasingly drawn in by Miss Brodie’s personal life, her ambitions for them take a startling and dark turn with devastating consequences.

If you are planning on attending this month, please RSPV to syp.londonbookclub@gmail.com. This is just to give us an idea of numbers, but please feel free to come along even if you don’t get round to letting us know – all are welcome!
