Getting a job in publishing, eh. It’s a tricky business. That’s why next up in our ‘Ask an Expert’ series over at The Network we have reached out to an industry-leading recruitment specialist.
Suzy Astbury is the managing director at Inspired Selection, who help companies across every field of publishing – from trade to STM – recruit the perfect candidate. Not only do Inspired help those looking to get their feet into the industry with entry-level roles, but in 2017 they launched Inspired Search to find candidates all the way up to board level (set your sights high, people!).
As with many in the publishing industry, Suzy’s career has not solely followed one path. Before flexing her legendary people skills in recruitment, Suzy worked for five years across rights, sales and marking. Now, Suzy also is part of the team heading up the infamous industry get-together event, the Borough Book Bash (check it out!). At such events you can hobnob with Suzy and her team, as well as fellow publishers and job seekers.
If you have questions about how to finally get your foot in the door of publishers, what are the big no-nos of covering letters, how to impress at interview, or how to ask about that promotion, then now is your chance to get answers from an bona fide expert.
So please join us on the SYP site, The Network, on 21 May at 6.30pm to have your recruitment-related questions answered by Suzy. Don’t fret if you can’t be online for the full chat, you can still submit questions to be answered from now until it’s end. To take part, simply log in and follow this link. Of course, a reminder that if you’re not already doing so, follow Suzy and her team on Twitter at @suzy_a and @Inspiredjobs.
I look forward to reading your questions and hearing some top-notch advice.
