Ask an Expert: Juliet Mushens, Literary Agent at Caskie Mushens
With London Book Fair fast approaching, where book deals will be signed left, right and centre, it makes sense the next stop in our ‘Ask an Expert’ series should be with someone who’ll be at the forefront of such deals – literary super-agent Juliet Mushens.
Having started her publishing career with HarperCollins in 2008, Juliet entered the agenting game in 2011. Since then, she’s been a Bookseller Rising Star and nominated for the Literary Agent of the Year for four consecutive years. Along with fellow super agent Robert Caskie, she formed the agency Caskie Mushens at the start of 2017. This agency is home to bestsellers and critically acclaimed writers such as Jessie Burton, James Oswald, Very British Problems and Ali Land.
On top of her regular literary agent duties, Juliet is an active member of the book community and offers support to the writers of tomorrow. If you ever think of writing a YA novel, Juliet has you covered with her 2015 book, Get Started in Writing Young Adult Fiction; while she also hosts Guardian Masterclasses on how to successfully find a literary agent – at which she shares her patented The Mushens Method™ for pitching your work and getting noticed. (I’ve attended one such event; it’s great.)
Join us in The Network on 28 February to have your questions answered about the world of agenting and much more. And if you’re not already doing so, follow Juliet on Twitter at @mushenska.
