Aspiring and existing publishing professionals will have the chance to boost their publishing skills, with each workshop focusing on a different area of publishing. The free, interactive workshops exclusively for SYP members will be led by industry experts and offer a real chance to learn and take something away.
Our first workshop is a Career Clinic to help you secure that elusive publishing job or internship, whatever stage you are at in your career. Are you drowning in cover letters and applications? Do you need a little help honing your CV or practicing interview techniques? Then this workshop is for you.
Workshop leader, Suzy Astbury, is the Managing Director of the industry’s leading Publishing recruitment agency, Inspired Search & Selection.
After studying Media and Theatre at University, Suzy launched her career in publishing. She was a PA to a board of directors at the Quarto Group. Following this she moved within the group into a Sales & Marketing role for the children’s imprint, QED. She then moved into foreign rights at Michael O’Mara before changing careers into publishing recruitment.
Suzy uses her own experience of working in publishing along with her awesome network to help candidates from the beginning of their careers all the way up to appointing the next CEOs at the top of the companies in publishing today.
Suzy will be leading this interactive workshop to give you the best chance of getting your first or second job in publishing. Using interview training techniques to help you hone your answers to perfecting that CV and covering letter. Come along and meet Suzy and some of her team to launch the career you’ve been waiting for.
Due to the interactive nature of the workshop, 15 places are available to SYP members only, on a first come, first served basis. Please ensure you are able attend on Wednesday 6th June (6.30-8.30pm) before applying. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can no longer attend this event after booking your space, as there will be a waiting list available.
It is recommended that attendees bring a laptop to the workshop for live work on CVs, cover letter and applications. Successful applicants will also be asked to email a copy of their current CV ahead of the workshop to ensure that advice is completely personalised.
