Assistant Managing Editor, Cornerstone

Job description

The Assistant Managing Editor is responsible for the smooth running of the publishing process for a designated list of books, and providing editorial support across the Cornerstone list. This includes supervising selected titles through the editorial process, and coordinating external offsets.

Day-to-day you can expect to be:
• Working closely with Editorial, Production and Design (and foreign publishers if required) to coordinate offsets of James Patterson and other titles
• Overseeing the editorial/production process for specified original titles
• Collating manuscripts and proofs and checking proof corrections
• Proofreading jackets and covers for designated titles
• Checking marketing materials, including book-proof covers
• Carrying out other editorial and administrative tasks as required in order to facilitate the smooth running of the department

We’re looking for someone seeking their next role within Managing Editorial. The below are all minimum criteria.

Experience:
• Managing a number of projects simultaneously
• Knowledge of publishing and the editorial/production process, whether that be trade, academic of magazine
• Demonstrable love of books and a voracious reader
• Copy-editing and proofreading

Character:
• Delivery-focused with strong personal organisation and time-management skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Impeccable grammar and spelling, and close attention to detail
• A strong team player with interpersonal sensitivity
• Initiative, independence and flexibility
