Helen Eaton
Senior Commissioning Editor at The Royal Society

Helen is the commissioning editor for the journal Philosophical Transactions B, a biological sciences journal published by the Royal Society. This journal is the oldest scientific journal in the world (hence the strange name!). Today it just publishes theme issues across the biological sciences. In her role, she handles theme issues from start to finish – Helen recruits guest editors to put together issues, work with the editors to manage the peer review process for the papers, then work with other colleagues to publish the issues and promote them. She has been doing this job for over 13 years. Before working here, Helen was an Assistant Commissioning Editor for biology books at OUP. She have wide experience across editorial work including journal policies and processes, working with editors, project management, attending conferences and marketing. Helen very much enjoys helping colleagues and less experienced colleagues with problem solving and best-practice. She is be very happy to become a mentor to someone from another organisation as she hopes she can share experiences and advice from an outside perspective.
Kate Horton
Institutional Sales Manager at Manchester University Press

Kate has a passion for academic publishing having worked in the sector for the past 14 years and before this as an academic bookseller. As Institutional Sales Manager for MUP she is responsible for identifying the needs of academic organisations within the humanities and social sciences and provides e-book collections tailored to their teaching and learning requirements. She manages several publishing partners for the distribution of MUPs products, globally. Kate is committed to facilitating relevant and accessible content for her library customers which embraces the University of Manchester’s sustainable developmental goals. She also participates in MUP’s accessibility and social responsibility working groups.
