Many of us are currently finding ourselves with more time on our hands, providing the perfect opportunity to work our way through the books that we’ve always wanted to read but never quite got around to. In these difficult and stressful times, we can find comfort within the pages of our favourite books or in the excitement of a new read. Our brand-new virtual book club is here to bring our community together from all over the UK. We can share our thoughts and ideas, creating a space of insight and creativity, as well as a chance to meet new people and make new friends without leaving your home.
The first book on our reading list is Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. The British author writes about a young woman’s journey of self-discovery in a charming and fresh style, which makes you fall in love with the characters right from the start. The witty, naturally-flowing conversation has put the novel on the literary map, most recently being longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2020. The book is bound to start a lot of interesting conversations so we hope you enjoy reading it this month!
Each month, we’ll meet online for a fantastic evening of book-related chat and insightful discussion. We’ll send out the link to the video chat ahead of each meeting and you can also get involved in the discussion on Twitter by following #SYPUKBOOKCLUB. You can also find us in our virtual headquarters on Goodreads, an amazing platform where we can stay in touch in between meetings.
At the end of each meeting, each of us can nominate a book for the group and then we’ll all vote for the next month’s read. As well as having monthly meetings, we will be sharing challenges, consisting of anything from specific discussion questions and topics to sharing your top reading spots. We are also planning on hosting Q&A’s with some of our favourite authors!
This event will be free but please sign up for a ticket so we can send you more information closer to the date.
