AGM: Shaping the Next 70 Years of Publishing
Posted on January 14, 2019 in UK

As you may have heard, the joint SYP UK and London committee AGM is coming up on 29 January. Tickets for the event were snapped up quickly. Like, really quickly. Clearly, everyone else is just as excited by it as we are ourselves.
The venue is booked, the nibbles and drinks ordered, the panel decided, and all that is left is to welcome you to it and ensure you have a good time.
To celebrate it being the 70th year the SYP have been running, we titled the event Shaping the Next 70 Years of Publishing. We’ll look back at the past year, while Maria Vassilopoulos will help us look back on SYP InPrint’s many milestone moments.
But, mostly, we’ll be looking forward to what is next for publishing. For a discussion on what that could involve, we will handover to our panel. This panel is:
- Chair: Sophie Waddy (@sophie_waddy), Vice-Chair of SYP UK
- James Spackman (@blackpooltower ), creator of The Spare Room Project (@SpareRoomProj) and Publisher at Pursuit Books (@Pursuitbooks)
- Zainab Juma(@zainabob), Co-Chair of Pride in Publishing (@PrideInPub) and Creative Manager at Penguin Random House (@PenguinUKBooks)
- Ella Kahn (@elladkahn), Chair of Young Stationers (@YoungStationers), former SYP Chair and founder of Diamond Kahn & Woods Literary Agency (@DKWLitAgency)
- Jon Teckman (@Jontwothreefour), Trustee of the writing charity Arvon (@arvonfoundation), published author (Ordinary Joe) and Senior Teaching Fellow and Director at Surrey Business School (@sbsatsurrey)
If you’ve got your ticket, we look forward to meeting you on Tuesday 29 January 2019, with proceedings kicking off from 6.30 p.m. and ending at 9.45 p.m.
Help us celebrate those who’ve gone before, and those (you lot) who’ll lead us on to new things.
Schedule:
6.30 p.m.: Refreshments and networking
7 p.m.: Committee announcements and update
8.15 p.m.: Panel discussion
9 p.m.: Networking and cake
9.45 p.m.: End of event
See you there,
