Career Café: Sales

Join us on the 13th July for our next Career Café panel, Sales! If you’re interested in the world of sales and want to know how to get books out into the world, then this is the panel for you. Come along to our panel to find out more about how to get into sales, how to progress, how COVID-19 has changed sales in publishing and more!

Panellists:

Iman Khabl is Key Account Executive at Hodder and John Murray Press. Previously she has worked as Sales Assistant at Faber and Sales Intern at Canongate.

Lucy Swindells works at Cambridge University Press as a Sales Coordinator for Germany and Austria. Having studied Drama and English Literature at the University of Sussex she graduated in 2017. She then taught English abroad in Vietnam before beginning a career in publishing. After numerous internships she started at CUP as a Sales Support Executive before being promoted to her current role. She enjoys working in a customer facing position that also allows her to analyse data sets. She considers it to be a privilege that she can utilise both these skills to sell something that she has a passion for, books.

After completing her joint-honours undergraduate degree of English and History at the University of Aberdeen, Alice Hamilton-Cox went on to get her masters in Publishing Studies from the University of Stirling. She joined Sandstone Press in 2018 and is now their Sales Executive, where she builds and maintains relationships with booksellers, reps and distributors.

Toni Allum is Publishing Sales and Marketing Manager at British Museum Press. She has recently moved from Pavilion Books, where she worked for five years, beginning as an intern and leaving as Sales Office Manager.

Chaired by:

Jearl Jhelisa is an international sales assistant at Bonnier. Prior to this, she was a PR, Sales and Marketing intern at Bonnier in the children’s department and volunteer editor and translator.
