Ask an Expert: Nicola Ramsey, Publisher at Edinburgh University Press

Posted on June 19, 2018 in Scotland, UK

Join us on The Network on Monday 25 June at 6.30pm to enter the world of academic publishing!

Nicola Ramsey, Publisher of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at Edinburgh University Press, will be our next up in our Ask an Expert series. Nicola publishes a range of works including textbooks, research monographs, reference works and cutting-edge series across the fields of history, politics, language and linguistics, art and architecture and literature.

This Q&A session will be wide ranging and questions can focus on her career working for a leading academic press that. is. not. based. in. London! (Woohoo!) So if you have questions covering how to get started, where to look for work and how to establish yourself outside of the publishing bubble of London – like in Scotland’s thriving publishing ecosystem, for example – now is your chance to get them answered.

Also, as Nicola’s background is as an editor and publisher focused on Islamic and Middle Eastern academic texts, you can ask questions on the world of academic publishing and what is involved in commissioning such work on these topics. If you have interests in academic publishing and want to know how it differs to trade, or love the areas Nicola publishes in, then get those questions coming.

Nicola can be found on Twitter at @NicolaRamsey1, and will be answering your questions on this thread from 6.30pm onward on the 25 June. Remember, you can log in and post your questions at any time from now until the end of the chat. If you are not able to be online at this time, you can still post your questions and simply login after the event to see the responses.

We look forward to reading your questions and seeing the answers. Until then…
