The SYP Scotland Conference Committee needs you!

Do you have an interest in publishing? Love event organising? Ready to grow your network within the industry? The SYP Scotland Conference committee needs you! Following the success of our 2021 conference, Ctrl Alt Refresh, we are recruiting for new committee members to organise our first hybrid event in 2022.

Last year was the first time I helped to organise a digital event on such a big scale. I enjoyed it so much, I applied to be one of the conference leads for this year. By sharing a little of my experience, I hope to encourage you to apply too.

One of the things I enjoyed most was meeting and working with such a talented group of volunteers. Everyone worked in different areas and were at different stages of their publishing career. We all had different strengths from social media communication to digital sales. I never once felt alone, as someone was always there to help. It was also great to bounce ideas off each other at our weekly meetings to come up with some amazing and diverse panel ideas. Our meetings were (and will continue to be) digital which made it so much easier to attend, it also ensured people from all over Scotland could be a part of it. My main role was to secure speakers for some of our panels. I enjoyed this because it enhanced my communication and confidence skills as well as giving me the opportunity to talk to some great industry professionals from around the world that I otherwise never would have. Watching a panel on the day of the conference and knowing I’d played a small part in bringing them together for some fantastic conversations gave me enormous satisfaction and showed that all our hard work had paid off.

Our switch to digital was certainly challenging and not without pitfalls, but if
anything, it made us more tenacious to succeed. We were able to connect with people on a global scale and provide access to those who may not have been able to attend in person. We learned some valuable lessons which we hope to take forward to a hybrid format and will continue to keep an open mind as to
how we can make this our best conference yet.

The SYP have been an invaluable resource to me as I have started my career in
publishing, but no event has helped my personal development more than being on the conference committee. Whilst it is a big commitment, the result is truly gratifying.

We look forward to receiving your application! Click here to make your application before it closes at 11:59pm on 11th October.
