SYP Scotland 2020/21 Conference Committee

Posted on October 12, 2020 in Scotland

It is that time of year again, when we bring together a team of enthusiastic volunteers that will organise and execute our annual conference! While we have had to adapt to these changing times, SYP Scotland is now excited to open submissions for this year’s conference team.

The Conference

The Society of Young Publishers is a volunteer-run organisation both for and by people in the early stages of their publishing career. The spring conference is an annual event that takes place in Scotland, and the 2021 conference will be a great opportunity to reassess the current moment and discuss with publishers from all stages in their career where publishing is headed from here. We are excited to be planning our first online conference which will allow us to connect more widely and welcome young and aspiring publishers from all across Scotland, and farther afield.

The Opportunity

We are now looking for volunteers to join the committee for the 2021 conference.
We are seeking motivated aspiring publishers, or those in the early stages of their career, who are able to offer some of their time leading up to the spring conference, to be held online around March/April 2021. Meetings will take place (on zoom) fortnightly, from November 2020 onwards. As part of the committee you would help shape the conference’s themes and panels, as well as (depending on what team you are on) contact speakers and sponsors, update the website, and design promotional material. This is a great opportunity to (virtually!) meet new people, gain some event-organising experience and to get involved in one of the biggest publishing conferences in Scotland.

How to Apply

If you would like to help plan the Spring 2021 SYP Scotland Conference, please submit your application, of no more than 400 words, to addressed to Alice Bilger by Friday 23 October. Please highlight in your application why you want to be on the committee and the skills and experience you think you could bring to the table, for example, previous event planning/hosting experience and any design or tech skills. We welcome all applicants from anywhere within Scotland!
