The London Marathon is in two days!

Posted on April 20, 2012 in Uncategorized

So yesterday it became real. Four simple words placed in one simple sentence made me realise what I have signed up for, what I have to do, and for the first time I was nervous. What were those words?

No backing out now!

OK I am being a tad dramatic but when I went to the final registration event yesterday I was given my number (35275 for those of you who want to know). The combination of finally getting my number and hearing those words meant all I could think of were a few four letter words I won’t repeat here.

Don’t get me wrong, I am confident that I will complete the marathon and really do feel I can do it in under 5 hours – respectable for me I swear – I just suddenly realised I have to run 26 miles and 385 yards. It was a big enough shock when I learned the marathon was OVER 26 miles (I didn’t read the small print when I signed up in) but suddenly I have a number and am checking the weather and planning what pub to go to afterwards. OK the last one’s not that unusual for me, but still, it’s real, it’s here and in two days I will be running the biggest marathon in the world.

In all honesty my training has gone really well and my training plan has served me well. My best run so far has been over 16 miles in 3 hours and although I destroyed my foot for the next week and a half I did feel I could carry on after the 3 hours so there is hope for this Sunday.

So I will be doing my part and I ask you to do yours too and sponsor Rosy and I as we run the London Marathon for the Book Trade Charity.
