Marathon training starts for 2012 SYP Chair!

Posted on January 15, 2012 in Uncategorized

I started my marathon training in the first week of January. Every week I will be doing 3 training sessions as part of my 16 week training schedule in the build up to the 2012 London Marathon. I will be writing short pieces along with our Commissioning Editor, Rosy Locke for InDigital on how the training is going and maybe include a few pictures of how stupid I look at the end of some of the sessions. I will also post a link to my sponsorship page in each blog and would be much appreciative of any sponsorship people are willing to give.

So my week, and marathon training, started really smoothly, and easily. According to my lovely 16 week training plan on Day 1 I had to complete a 30 minute steady walk. I am sure you will all be pleased to know that I completed this with no problems.

Day 2 was a bit more intense. 40 minutes in total – a 10 minutes brisk walk, 20 minutes easy run and finally a 10 minute brisk walk. This was a bit harder, as you would expect, but I enjoyed it, and finished it without any issues. What was particularly satisfying was seeing that I had covered 2.4 miles in total!

Day 3 was again a bit longer, 55 minutes in total. A 15 minute steady walk, a 30 minute easy run and a 10 minutes steady walk. Again I completed this without any issues and was pleased with the distance I covered, 3.74 miles. Not too shabby I think you’ll agree.

All in all not the most exciting week for you guys reading about it but I was really pleased with how it went and it has done my confidence the world of good. Plus I realised my Asics trainers may not be the best looking things in the world but they are by far the comfiest shoes I have ever worn!
