The Northern and Midlands SYP's second event is at The Showroom where we welcome Suzanne Collier, Leonora Rustamova and Michael Stewart as our guest speakers. If you are passionate about the publishing industry come along and enjoy an evening of book readings, discussions, networking and, of course, tasty snacks and drinks.

6.30 pm – Arrive at the Showroom, write your name and company/profession on a sticker at the door, grab yourself a drink at the bar and relax.

7.00 pmSuzanne Collier: Suzanne Collier has been described as THE person you need to get ahead in book publishing. Having over 25 years in the industry, and in almost every department, in Academic as well as Trade publications, she understands the whole publishing business. Alongside her publishing career she gives advice to others and, since 1999, has been doing so in the name of She is also the youngest person ever to Chair the SYP.

7.30 pmLeonora Rustamova: Leonora Rustamova lives in her native Yorkshire with her 16 year old daughter, Flora. She was a passionate and popular teacher for more than ten years, then she wrote a story that got her sacked, or was she really saved? Her debut novel embedded in a memoir, Stop Don’t Read This – The story, is her telling of what happened, her thoughts and insights into teaching, teenagers and more.

8.00 pm РEnjoy some of the yummy canap̩s put on by The Showroom and make that essential trip to the bar.

8.30 pmMichael Stewart: Michael Stewart is an award winning playwright. His last BBC Radio 4 play was aired on February 14th 2011. It was called ‘Castaway.’ Michael is a lecturer on the Creative Writing course at Huddersfield University and Director of The Huddersfield Literature Festival. KING CROW is his debut novel and it has already been short listed for The Guardian’s NOT THE BOOKER. The rights for King Crow have been sold to Russian Publisher Azbooka-Atticus and Bulgarian Publisher ‘Artline.’ Michael lives in Bradford with his wife and son.
