The Dice Man Pub Crawl

I’ll admit, it was my brain child. And I’ll admit there were one or two raised eyebrows when I said that not only would the dice decide where we went, but also what we drank. Not one for the control freaks but living life by the dice for one night only was pretty good fun!
The intrepid gang met in the King’s Arms, where we all rolled for our first drink.
If you rolled a 1 or a 4 it meant beer, a 2 or a 5 meant wine and 3 or 6 meant a spirit. Before anyone accuses me of encouraging excessive alcohol consumption there was also a list of non-alcoholic drinks. I just can’t remember what it was.
Anyway…as chief dice roller I had the privilege (self-awarded!) to roll to see which pub we would move on to next. Obviously I had a group of independent adjudicators to ensure that I didn’t cheat and just pick the nearest pub (well, it was raining!) and so off we trudged through the elements.
Every once in a while I called forth an unsuspecting victim to take part in a ‘challenge’. Of course this meant another roll to see what the dice had in store for you, with outcomes including adopting a persona for the evening, posing for a picture (pose decided on by peers) and telling an embarrassing story. The dice dealt me a harsh blow when I had to mistake a random person for someone famous. I have never seen anyone look quite as scared as the man who I jumped up and down in front of, clapping excitedly and asking for his autograph. Needless to say he declined my request for a hug and I skulked away dejected, avoiding eye contact with his burly friends who clearly thought I was bonkers. I could have told them that the dice made me do it, but I don’t think that would have helped.
In short, I encourage every one to try living life by the dice, if only for one night. It’s unlikely to change your life, but it will be a night to remember!
