Win a copy of a new guide to editing

The Publishing Training Centre and Horn Editorial Books have just published a new guide for aspiring copy-editors. Copy-editing is normally £45, but we’re giving away a copy free to the lucky winner of our crossword competition. Just solve the crossword puzzle (above) and you’ll find that the letters in the shaded squares spell out the title of the Official Magazine of The 2008 London Book Fair. Email that title to inprint@thesyp.org.uk to be in with a chance of receiving a copy of this useful book. The winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries.

Both a manual for aspiring copy-editors and a useful reference for those with more experience, Copy-editing offers guidance on how to hear the text, check technical figures, suggest changes and apply appropriate styles, impose consistency, and communicate with authors and other colleagues. There is information on working on paper and electronic files, dealing with copyright and, of course, resolving troublesome grammatical problems. Each chapter includes exercises that let you practise what you’re learning on material drawn from different kinds of publications aimed at a variety of readers from children to academics.
