Room of Abandon press release

THE HANGING GARDENER OF BABYLON PRESENTS ROOM OF ABANDON:
WORDS
MUSIC
NEED

Someone said poems are never finished only abandoned……..

Open mic slot, register by 7.30pm, we want to dig out undiscovered talent to feature in forthcoming shows. So come test us!

WORDS
Agnes Meadows – The Jerusalem Post says “…poetry with its hair down and a wicked glint in its eye”. Elsewhere they say “Agnes can take you to the heights of lust then pull you into the abyss of despair in a single stanza.” I’m hoping she does the really sexy one about high heels.

Kayo Chingonyi – Spokefest UK Slam Championships winner 2004, Rise Poetry Slam winner 2003, I grabbed him quicktime and fresh from his triumph as winner of the Roundhouse Poetry Slam 2007 which took place Wednesday just gone. I can’t wait to see ‘grown-up’ poets try to pick their jaws off the floor when they hear the magic this young man can weave with words. Myspace -

Lucy Leagrave – Do not be fooled by how sweet and delicate this lady looks. Her words bite then worm their way into your blood. She also runs a night called Cat Scratch Fever right in the heart of town. It looks like screaming fun and I can’t wait to get down there. Myspace -

MUSIC
Lunatic Crash – I walked into one of my local bars one night for a quick drink and had to stay until closing time in the small hours when I heard the wall of sound created by this lot. And it was only their stripped down version on semi-acoustic guitar and congas that did it. Rock that likes to live firmly in the tradition of the blues. I made them promise to do their rousing version of All Along the Watchtower. Myspace - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=29255652

Swing It – Fronted by John Clarke who is a poet published by Tall Lighthouse and whose fiery performances really butters my peanut. Jazz poetry beat combo with dance. As Nigel Knapp of The Big Fibbers said at their most recent gig:"they do what it says on the tin!" Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/swingituk

NEED
Well. You. Need. To. Get. Down. There. Or else our kings are going to be even crosser than usual.

‘The elephant of surprise’……at the last session we were blown away by 2 RADA graduates, Harry and Cary. Harry performed this brilliant monologue and Cary wrote and abandoned a poem right there and then. It even had internal rhymes and everything. As a consequence, we’ve decided to include some actors in our forthcoming shows. They are spoken word artists too after all. We are also looking into including a cabaret element in the shows too.

As usual, we want you to abandon your hang-ups but most importantly your poetry. The best ones go up on our myspace. See you Wednesday then.

Room Of Abandon Wednesday, 22 August 2007 – 7.30pm
The Cross Kings Pub, 126 York Way, London, N1 0AX (5 minutes walk from King’s Cross tube).
Spoken word and music night, 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month. FREE
