Co-chair - Alice Greary

After a fantastic year as Speaker Events Coordinator, Alice has become Co-Chair of the Oxford branch of the SYP with Lucy. An English graduate of Southampton University, Alice has worked in marketing at an educational publisher and as a freelance PR assistant for a prize-nominated author. She was proud of and inspired by the committee’s hard work on the Oxford Conference in 2015 and is looking forward to developing more exciting SYP projects for the year ahead.

Lucy is a modern languages graduate (French and Spanish) from Oxford University, and works in publicity at Princeton University Press. Following a whirlwind year as SYP's Marketing co-ordinator (which among other things involved marketing and promoting the SYP Conference), Lucy will be co-chair of SYP Oxford along with Alice, and is looking forward to a great 2016 with the rest of the committee. Franca graduated from the University of Exeter with a Masters in Classics & Ancient History. She started work in publishing at University of Exeter Press as a marketing assistant, but working in all areas of the press. She recently moved to become part of the academic marketing team at Oxford University Press. Follow Franca on Twitter at @francadriess.

Speaker Events Coordinator - Michelle Fisher

Michelle is currently a Content Development Manager within the STM Journals department at Elsevier. Prior to this she gained experience working with Bodleian Library Publishing and Signal Books. She has a degree in Creative Writing and Study of Religions from Bath Spa University, a Masters in Creative Writing and a Masters in Publishing from Oxford Brookes University. Michelle enjoys writing in her spare time and has enough books at home to start a small library. She is looking forward to organising some inspiring speaker events this year that will keep you in the know about all things publishing. Speaker Events Coordinator - Rebecca Bengoechea

Rebecca is a History graduate from the University of Sheffield. After several months studying Spanish at the Universidad de Salamanca, her first foray into publishing was with children’s books in the co-editions department of Igloo Books. Rebecca is now working as the International Rights Assistant for Princeton University Press following time in both their Publicity and Editorial departments. Working with Michelle, she’ll be aiming to deliver some fab speakers and events over the year on all things publishing!


Social Events Coordinator - Karen Raith

Karen is a graduate of English literature at the University of Edinburgh and MLitt in Publishing at the University of Stirling. Since graduating from Stirling, she has been an Editorial Assistant at John Wiley and Sons, Development Editor at Kogan Page, and is currently Senior Assistant Commissioning Editor at Oxford University Press (aka Hogwarts). She looks forward to a great year at SYP Oxford and seeing you at the 2016 socials.


Social Events Coordinator - Gemma Gardner

Gemma is an English Literature and Creative Writing graduate from Aberystwyth University. She gained work experience with Honno Press, Little, Brown Book Group and Chipmunka Publishing Plc, and now works as a Desk Editor at Osprey Publishing. When not writing quiz questions, or plotting other activities with Karen for the SYP Oxford socials, she enjoys reading and Lindy Hop dancing.If Gemma could only choose one word to describe what she wants to see for the SYP in 2016, it would be “adventures”!


Marketing Coordinator - Jessica Lane

Jessica Lane
Jessica holds a degree in English Literature from the University of Leeds and interned at Granta before beginning her current role in English Language Teaching at Oxford University Press. As part of last year's committee, Jessica enjoyed putting on a range of talks and events for the SYP's Oxford Conference. She is now working alongside Charlie as Marketing Coordinator and hopes to get as many people involved in the SYP as possible! Jess's word for the SYP in 2016 would be 'creative'.


Marketing Coordinator - Charlie Rashid

Charlie has an undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature and Linguistics from Queen Mary University, and an MA in Publishing from Oxford Brookes. She currently works as the only Finance and Marketing Executive at The Phoenix comic, and along with Jessica will be engaging with members & non-members about the awesome events happening this year. Charlie is currently waiting for an invitation to a school for witchcraft and wizardry or a cursed ring to fall into her lap. Get in touch: @Crashidff.



Oxford Brookes Student Liaison - Ben Horton


Ben finished his BA in History & English at Jesus College, Oxford in 2015, and is now studying on the Oxford Brookes Publishing MA programme. He reviews concerts and books for the Oxford Culture Review and can be found interning at Taylor & Francis Group on Mondays. With feet in both the Oxford and Brookes camps, he is looking forward to helping aspiring publishers in both institutions come together to share  their passion and expertise. Oxford Brookes Student Liaison - Georgina Carter

Georgie is studying the MA in Publishing at Oxford Brookes University and is Student Liaison Officer for SYP. She's hoping to get more students aware of SYP's amazing opportunities and events. Georgie's previous degree was in History of Art at the University of York and she still loves wandering round art galleries in her spare time, as well as practising various wobbly yoga poses and tweeting at @glcarter.


Oxford University Student Liaison - Lucy Russell

Lucy Russell is a third year DPhil/PhD student in Modern Languages at the University of Oxford. She is also Postgraduate Editor of the Modern Humanities Research Association (MHRA)’s journal, Working Papers in the Humanities, which has inspired her growing interest in publishing. Lucy is really excited to be on the committee this year and is looking forward to spreading the word about the SYP and all its events to as many postgrads and undergrads as possible. @LucyEVRussell

Oxford University Student Liaison - Christopher Robson


Chris is a third year undergraduate at Oxford University, studying English Literature. He is currently writing his dissertation on Robert Frost, and recently finished an extended analysis of nostalgia in Children’s Literature. He remains fascinated by Classical and Children’s Literature – and always searches for a means to bring the two together.
